Kia KV7 Concept to Inspire All-New Minivan

Although the Kia Sedona has proven itself to be a well-rounded, affordable minivan, it hasn’t been able to match the success of its Japanese or American counterparts. Still, Kia isn’t prepared to give up on this family-friendly segment. Reports suggest that a replacement for the Sedona is due to arrive in 2014.

When the 2014 Sedona arrives, it will borrow many styling cues from the KV7 Concept, which debuted at the 2011 North American International Auto Show. Kia spokesman James Hope also told Inside Line recently that the new current Sedona will continue to stick around until the new model is ready for prime time.

“The minivan segment has been and will continue to be important to Kia,” said Hope. “Although there will not be a 2013 model year Sedona, our plans call for the current generation vehicle to be available at dealerships through 2012, with production scheduled to resume in 2013.”

At the beginning of July, Kia reported year-to-date Sedona sales of 10,612 versus 11,006 during the same time period in 2011. Although right now the Sedona serves as little more than a low-cost option for minivan buyers, the upcoming model will undoubtedly offer more style. The concept it will be based on was described by Kia as “convention challenging,” so expect plenty of surprises ahead.
