Jaguar Unveils Hardtop Version of the New F-Type

2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe

This week, Jaguar is showing off its all-new F-Type Coupe on two continents, with events at LA Auto Show and the Tokyo Motor Show. It’s a new twist on a model that’s already captivated the press and enthusiasts alike.

The F-Type Coupe can be had in three varieties, with the F-Type R Coupe topping off the range. The F-Type Coupe R gets a 5.0-liter, 550-horsepower supercharged V8, which helps the R sprint from 0-60 mph in just 4 seconds flat and reach a top speed of 186 miles per hour.

In addition to a powerful engine under the hood, the F-Type R is loaded with performance tech. An advanced suspension system keeps the car planted and controlled in corners, and the system itself is 4.3-percent stiffer in front and 3.7-percent tighter in the back than in the F-Type V8S Convertible. Drivers can also alter the system’s calibration settings for more responsiveness. Like the Convertible, the Coupe also gets Jaguar’s eight-speed SportShift automatic.

The range-topping F-Type R also boasts a new electronic active differential and a torque vectoring system. Together, its traction and suspension settings help the Coupe deliver precision handling during high-speed maneuvers. Stopping confidence is assured thanks to 15-inch brakes in front and 14.8-inch brakes in back. Jaguar promises that carbon-ceramic units will be available soon.

Aside from the V8 model, there two V6-powered models as well. The base model features a 340-horsepower, supercharged, 3.0-liter V6 and can deliver a 0-60 mph time of 5.1 seconds. Opt for the F-Type S Coupe and you’ll get an extra 40-horsepower and a slightly quicker 0-60 mph time of 4.8 seconds. Both V6 models feature a Dynamic Mode, while the S Coupe adds on an active exhaust, launch control, adaptive suspension and larger 15-inch front and 12.8-inch rear brakes, as opposed to the base model’s 13.9-inch/12.8-inch setup.

The F-Type Convertible was a stunning addition to the Jaguar lineup, going on to win numerous accolades including the 2013 World Car Design of the Year award. With the arrival of the Coupe, the F-Type is just to capture even more acclaim as it embodies the classic lines that are Jaguar hallmarks.

“Creating a sports Coupe is the purest of design tasks, and also the most challenging; get it right and aesthetically the result will be as dynamic as the car should be rewarding to drive. In F-TYPE Coupe, I believe we’ve got it right,” said Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar. “The purity of the C-X16 concept has been retained without compromise; the long bonnet, low roofline and tapering cabin of the F-TYPE Coupe inspires me every time I see it.”

The F-Type Coupe will come with a base price of $65,000, while the S Coupe adds $12,000. For the R Coupe and all its power and performance tech, pricing begins at $99,000.
