Aggressive Lines, Fuel-Sipping Tech Help the 2014 Mazda3 Stand Out

Economy cars are getting sexier and sexier and the all-new 2014 Mazad3 is no exception. Sure, it’s still going to offer solid mileage for a low base price, but Mazda has upped the ante with fresh, aggressive styling that borrows from the all-new Mazda6 and the automaker’s KODO “Soul of Motion” design language.

When the Mazda3 reaches showrooms, it will attract buyers with an official fuel economy rating of 30 miles per gallon in the city and 41 miles per gallon on the highway. This rating is made possible with Mazda’s 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G inline four-cylinder engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. When opting for the manual transmission, expect 29 mpg city and 41 mpg highway.

More power can also be had with the available 2.5-liter inline-four. With a six-speed auto, this unique helps the Mazda3 sedan deliver 28/39 mpg, or 29/40 with the company’s i-Eloop regenerative braking system.

Available niceties include a new seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, upgraded Bose sound system, and  a lane departure warning system, to name a few.

Fresh styling, new powertrain technologies, and a host of improvements won’t inflate the price too much, however the new 3 is far from the cheapest in its class. The 2014 Mazda3 will start at $16,945. The entire lineup will be priced as follows:

  • 2014 Mazda3 i Sport sedan – $18,445
  • 2014 Mazda3 i Sport hatchback – $18,945
  • 2014 Mazda3 i Touring sedan – $19,595
  • 2014 Mazda3 i Touring hatchback – $20,095
  • 2014 Mazda3 i Grand Touring sedan – $22,745
  • 2014 Mazda3 i Grand Touring hatchback – $23,245
  • 2014 Mazda3 s Touring sedan – $24,595
  • 2014 Mazda3 s Touring hatchback – $25,095
  • 2014 Mazda3 s Grand Touring sedan – $25,595
  • 2014 Mazda3 s Grand Touring hatchback – $26,495

“The compact car segment is one that is competitively cutthroat, meaning there is little room for error when launching an all-new vehicle like the 2014 Mazda3,” said Jim O’Sullivan, president and CEO, Mazda North America. “But our best-selling vehicle has only gotten better, winning over the industry critics that were recently offered a behind-the-wheel experience. Yet our most important judges remain the consumers and I am confident that our third-generation Mazda3 will not disappoint.”
