400-HP 2015 Porsche Macan Goes on Display in Los Angeles

2015 Porsche Macan

The premium compact crossover segment is saturated, but that’s not stopping automakers from getting in on the action. The latest to enter this niche is Porsche, which unveiled it’s all-new compact crossover to the media today in Los Angeles.

Think of the new Macan as a smaller Cayenne, but don’t let its demure dimensions fool you–it’s still a Porsche through and through. It will be offered in two models; the Macan S and Macan Turbo. The former will feature a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine that’s for for 340 horsepower and will sprint from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 5.2 seconds. It will also reach a top speed of 156 miles per hour.

For those who desire 911-like performance, but demand more utility, the Macan Turbo might be the right fit. This model features an all-new 400-horsepower twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 engine. That powerplant will help the crossover reach 60 mph from a standstill in a mere 4.6 seconds before reaching a top speed of 164 mph. Both the Turbo and the S utilize Porsche’s slick-shifting seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission.

Stopping power will be equally impressive, as the Macan includes monobloc fixed-caliper brakes up front–more specially,13.78-inch discs on the S model and 14.17-inch discs the Turbo.

Porsche’s other sport utility offers a unique plenty of performance and off-road capability, and the new Macan also shares that flexibility. All-wheel drive is standard on both models along with Porsche Traction Management system to keep wheels from spinning. When traction is really elusive, the AWD system is able to send 100-percent of “necessary” torque to the front wheels. Drivers can also engage the Off Road setting, which alters shift points, pre-tensions the clutch and changes the front/rear torque split for improved traction. With the optional air suspension system, the crossover has the ability to claim an impressive 9.06 inches of ground clearance.

Inside, you’ll notice familiar design cues, including the long button-laden center console that’s familiar in other Porsche models. There’s also a steering wheel that’s unique to the Macan, along with sporty accents like a center mounted tachometer and paddle shifters. The Macan S comes standard with a Piano Black interior package while the Turbo has higher quality leather, brushed aluminum accents, and 18-way power front seats.

Pricing for the Macan S will start at $49,900, while the Macan Turbo asks an MSRP of $72,300. It arrives in showrooms soon. Check out the videos and gallery below to take a closer look.
